For most companies, achieving seo success is determined by their skill at choosing a SEO company. This can be a difficult thing because of course all SEO companies are going to tell you they are the best. So how can you sift thought the ones which are good at SEO and the Cowboys.

There are some obvious things you can check.

1. How do their clients rank on Google? An important thing to look at here is the difficulty of the keyword/s they display. This is not so much determined by the industry, but by how generic the keyword is in the industry they are in. For example some of our clients ranks number one for ‘landscaping’, or ‘boat finance’. This is very difficult, compared to say ‘ boat finance company’ or ‘commercial landscaping melbourne’. So take note of this.

2. Where does their own website rank? While this is definately not a be all and end all, it is important. Many of the websites that rank near the top for the most generic SEO based phrases pay thousands of dollars a month for links to their website. They are not going to do that for you the client. Also, many of the top companies are very detached from the actual SEO process for their clients. It is the younger high ranking companies that i feel offer the best chance of dedicated but professional service that can be your SEO success.

3. Ask questions about what they will do. The person on the phone should be able to answer every question you have without changing the subject, or else they are just a sales person.

4. Realistic expectations. The biggest mistake is to get sucked in by unrealistic expectations. Salespeople pumping up your tyres so you believe that the SEO success you will achieve will be overnight and fantastic. It takes time. No two ways about it.

5. Ask about their reporting and even get an example report. This way you can see what they will be telling you. How flexible are they on that, how often does it come out? Who will be your account manager? People do business with people they like.

If you follow these guidelines, then you may find SEO success from the company you choose.
